Workshop
Description:
"Mashups" are web sites in which data from a number of sources are retrieved and synthesized to create a unified look. These sites have been made possible by recent Web 2.0 trends encouraging open and free access to data. Mashups can enhance a library's web presence by adding value to materials and services we offer.

This final workshop in the series will begin with a discussion and analysis of mashups in a library context. The presenters will then assist the participants through the process of creating and publishing a "New Books" mashup.  We will utilize data resources from Amazon, OCLC, and III's 'xrecord'. Some familiarity with HTML and XML structure is encouraged.

Presenters:
Mark Dahl is the Assistant Director for Systems and Access Services at Lewis & Clark College's Watzek Library. He has given numerous technology-related presentations, and is co-author of the book Digital Libraries: Integrating Content and Systems.

Jeremy McWilliams is the Digital Services Coordinator at Watzek Library. He has been developing library applications for a few years, and has incorporated mashup techniques into portions of the Watzek Library web site.
