9:00 - 12:00: ¿No Comprende? Spanish Health Information Resources for English
Speaking Librarians
Do you have a growing Latino population in your community? Do you need
to find health information in Spanish fast but don't know where to
look? Are the only words in your Spanish vocabulary burrito and gracias?
If you answered yes to these questions, then this is the class for you!
This 3-hour hands-on class will cover resources for learning basic
library, medical, and Internet Spanish vocabulary. You will also learn
to identify and evaluate health websites in Spanish to which you can
direct your patrons.

1:30 – 4:30 PM: An Evidence Based Approach to Complementary and Alternative Medicine
Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) is extremely popular and growing
more so all the time. This class will help participants to
• review alternative medicine history in the United States
• realize the need for medical librarians to promote an evidence-based approach to
educating health professionals and consumers about CAM
• develop knowledge of databases and web sites which support evidence-based CAM
• garner alternative medicine collection development resources
• create an outline for teaching evidence-based CAM classes to health
professionals and consumers.
