UPCOMING EVENTSToeing the Line or Riding the Edge? Copyright Law and Content Licensing
Friday, March 4, 2005 For directions and parking information, please visit http://www.uplace.pdx.edu. Program Description: In libraries and classrooms, ready access to information is often constrained by restrictions imposed by copyright laws and license agreements with content vendors. The better we understand the laws, the more likely we are to satisfy our patron, student, and faculty information needs. What are the basics of copyright law and digital licensing? What are some of the related controversies? When people or institutions push the envelope of copyright law in order to better facilitate Fair Use for educational purposes, what legal risks are they really taking? Is your institution limiting access more than necessary, or is it in contempt of the law and taking foolish legal risks? This workshop will address these questions and more. Teaching faculty are invited to join the lunchtime session where copyright issues impacting content creators in a growing digital environment will be discussed. Agenda:
