First Portal in South America joins the global network from Barra Grande, Piauí

Portals Organization is delighted to announce the successful launch of the first-ever Portal in South America, the seventh Portal worldwide, now live in Barra Grande, the state of Piauí, Brazil. Designed as a pure window between distant countries and cultures, the Piauí Portal now offers residents and visitors a way to meet fellow humans around the world.

Unveiled on March 28th, the Piauí Portal connects to a growing network of identical Portals, located in Vilnius (Lithuania), Lublin (Poland), Dublin (Ireland), Philadelphia (United States), Ipswich (United Kingdom) and Manila (Philippines). Locations rotate every 3 minutes, inviting humanity to meet above all borders and differences.

“Brazil carries a powerful, vibrant human energy - filled with smiles, dance, and self-expression - and now that energy flows through Portals to the world.” says Benediktas Gylys, founder of Portals Organization. Now a cherished tradition, Piauí was welcomed by our Portals community celebrating simultaneously across all Portal locations worldwide where cities’ officials and communities came together to share smiles, waves and even their passion for football. Following the official launch, there have already been many memorable moments including a first engagement proposal in front of the Piaui Portal.

According to the President of Investe Piauí, Victor Hugo Almeida, the Portal is part of a strategy designed to generate jobs, income, and new opportunities for the people of Piauí, positioning the state competitively in the global tourism market.

“We are creating a permanent showcase for tourism in Piauí, with the aim of increasing tourist visits and the average length of stay in the state, strengthening commerce, the hotel sector, bars, restaurants and tourism services. In other words, we are working to strengthen tourism and promote local economic development,” he explains.

The launch of Piauí Portal marks a historic moment as the first Portal in South America, bringing Brazil into a global growing network. By introducing Portals to South America for the first time, it places Barra Grande and the country at the center - connecting people in real time and creating new ways to share experiences, stories and cultures.

The Piauí Portal was made possible with the generous support from our partner Investe Piauí

Brazil is the second country this year to join the global Portals Network following the success of Asia’s first Portal earlier this year. Another Portal sculpture will be joining in the coming months with its location yet to be announced.
